It has been a while since I did any blogging. I have been posting interesting articles on our Facebook page but I wanted to bring special attention to an excellent article written by Andrea Hankins of Family Martial Arts. Here is the link. http://www.themartialartswoman.com/misconceptions-secrets-female-martial-artist/
In this post on her blog site she talks about several misconceptions and misunderstandings that not only apply to women but also to martial artists in general.
Quite often when someone finds out I am a martial artists they ask me to do something crazy like kick them in the head. Why would I do that?? I could really hurt you!
People who have no martial arts background do not really understand part of the training is humility and self-control or discipline. Hence the name MARTIAL art. Every art that I know of is based on self control and discipline and teaches the student to NOT use their training unless they have to.
So why in the world would I kick you in the head? To prove I can? I don't need to prove anything to you or to anyone else.
The name TaeKwon-do means foot hand way of life. It is my understanding that in the Korean language when a word is separated by a hyphen it adds emphasis. Thus in Taekwon-Do the emphasis is placed on the way of life or the Do. Indeed the Taekwon-Do encyclopedia emphasizes this throughout the book. It talks about community service, humility, and the like.
So please do not ask me to kick you or punch you or hurt you in any way. It goes against my training and my philosophy. Instead, come join a class and get to know what the art is all about. Until next time..... Taekwon!
