It's been a while.... would I kick you in the head?

It has been a while since I did any blogging.  I have been posting interesting articles on our Facebook page but I wanted to bring special attention to an excellent article written by Andrea Hankins of Family Martial Arts.  Here is the link.http://www.themartialartswoman.com/misconceptions-secrets-female-martial-artist/

In this post on her blog site she talks about several misconceptions and misunderstandings that not only apply to women but also to martial artists in general.

Quite often when someone finds out I am a martial artists they ask me to do something crazy like kick them in the head.

The New Year Resolutions and Martial Arts

Every January 1 we make resolutions.  "I will lose weight." "I will get in shape." "I will make lots of money."  "I will learn a new skill."  While those intentions are good, how long do we really stick to those resolutions?  If you are really dedicated, maybe 2-3 weeks.

The problem comes when our goals are not well defined.  Expert after expert recommends setting specific goals with time frames.  But the average person does not do that.

Back to School Martial Arts Training

Back to School is a great time to start training in martial arts.

With summer coming to a close and school starting again, it is a great time to add martial arts training into your schedule.  At Arrowhead Martial Arts and Fitness, we offer family classes so everyone can train together.  Martial Arts are a great way to get into shape and stay in shape over the (at least in the Northeast) long and cold winters.

Every school year brings new challenges including learning to fit in to a new classroom perhaps with new kids especially if your child has changed schools.

Special Training Days to Introduce Martial Arts to Adults

Arrowhead Martial Arts and Fitness just held our annual Father's Day Training.  We had a blast and the fathers that came have a new respect for what their kids are doing on the floor every week.  We did the same thing in May for the mothers and had a nice turn out for that as well.

So why do special training classes for adults?  The obvious answer is to get them out on the floor.  Many adults are very reluctant to start a new sport or commit to training.  Hey!

Martial Arts Tournaments and Training

The last few months have been busy with martial arts tournaments all over the state.  Arrowhead has had a great showing at the tournaments with some newbies and some tried and true students participating.  Everyone has done a fantastic job!

So why compete in a tournament?  What does it add to your training?  A martial arts tournament has many benefits for your training including seeing different styles of arts, different interpretations of your art, pushing you to the next level, and learning from the nuances of competition.

Family Fitness thru martial arts

Welcome to Arrowhead Martial Arts and Fitness new blog.  I am new to this so bear with me as we get going.

I thought an appropriate place to start would be to talk about family fitness and martial arts.  I see kids today (my own included) that spend most of their time in front of a screen be it a TV, video game or portable device.  I, myself, spend most of my day in front of a computer screen as part of my job.

Growing up in a small rural town, we kids spent our free time outside, playing.
